An interview with Ron Thompson, Product Owner
by Phil Lew
Agile is here to stay and, says consultant Ron Thompson, Eiscon Group, a 2015 PNSQC speaker, and product owners need to learn how to effectively manage the agile process. It’s a fulltime job, one that can’t be delegated, and one that requires both wisdom and courage. From a conference viewpoint, it’s an area rich with potential for exploration by presenters and attendees.
The following interview with Thompson should generate some topic ideas for those passionate about contributing positively to the agile movement.
PNSQC: What is biggest challenge of product owner?

Did you know one in five typical employees routinely break basic cyber security rules at work? Worse, one in three millennials is downloading apps without mentioning it to IT—and 23 percent of millennials intentionally down apps on IT’s “not approved” list, even though an approved app is available.
That’s what a recent survey by IT services provider Softchoice found. But none of this is news to Bhushan Gupta, Gupta Consulting, LLC. This cybersecurity expert will be presenting at PNSQC 2016, and his message will be a warning to security bosses everywhere: Your company’s assets and secrets are at risk every day, and as more services and tools move to the cloud, those risks are growing.
During a recent webinar hosted by PNSQC’s Phil Lew, Gupta offered a taste of his full presentation. He focused on four specific areas of security that, he said, pose great threats to business.

To help you in your search, we’ve done some of the work for you and have assembled a list of “Hot Topics” for presentations.
These are ideas that are on everyone’s mind and that people want to hear and talk about. Some topics are old favorites like “Coding for QA”, while others are more timely - "Did Windows 10 matter?”
by Darlene Bennett GreeneThe software community needs to step up its discussion around the treatment and role of women in the industry, because conditions aren’t improving.
That was the word from Darlene Bennett Greene, a participant in a PNSQC webinar in March. Greene, a leadership and communications consultant, former McAfee VP and a retired U.S. Navy Commander, will be among the featured speakers at PNSQC 2016. Her presence at the fall conference is sure to spark further discussion around her “cracking the code” topic, the code being how to fully integrate women into the tech community.
She pulled no punches during the webinar, chastising the tech community for continuing to ignore its poor treatment of women and calling for a renewed effort to bridge the gender gap. Following are excerpts from the webinar.
