Most employers, especially those charting rapid growth, are in a bind when it comes to filling out their SQA engineering team. Hiring just senior level talent usually isn’t an option; either they’ll bust the budget or there simply aren’t enough to go around. And taking youngsters out of school doesn’t work either, because most grads have received precious little QA training during their path through college.
What to do? Cambia Health Solutions’ Tim Farley offers some insights from his experience at Cambia, which has developed a comprehensive initiative to grow the capability and capacity of its SQA Engineering organization.
“The initiative ranges from recruiting and cultivating interns interested in SQA, to offering training programs and coaching to newly hired and existing SQA Engineers, to providing a clear career path within SQA to keep people in the profession, help them advance in their careers, and ensure the company benefits from the investment made in them,” Farley says in the abstract of his technical paper, Growing SQA Engineers.
You can learn how Cambia Solutions attacked this chronic problem, and save money too, by registering by July 31 for PNSQC’s 32nd annual Conference, to be held in Portland Oct. 20-22. The Conference, Bridges to Quality, is packed with presentations like Farley’s. Meanwhile, the Super Early Bird savings of up to $305 will give you some spending money to explore Portland when you’re not attending a session or comparing notes with colleagues.
