When an organization is implementing a test automation solution not only does it face challenges with tool selection, framework implementation, resources, training, and establishing practices and processes; but the delivered solution must also be sustainable, reliable, and provide results that are trusted by stakeholders and team members. Achieving automation success was especially challenging for our organization as we were experiencing tremendous growth and adopting Agile.
In this technical presentation I will walk through the key elements to have in place before you start automating tests, and the one-test-at-a-time approach that resulted in an automation solution that is scalable, trusted, and reliable, provides fast feedback and visible results. I will also discuss the importance of having dedicated automation resources and an end-to-end automation solution in place before you start automating tests.
Key takeaways include:
- A checklist (and understanding) of key elements to have in place before you automate your first test.
- Examples of standards and best practices for automation and application code.
- Examples and an understanding of how to build (or rebuild) trust in automated test results.
