You hear the alarm go off. You struggle to find the snooze button. Your eyes are so heavy you can’t possibly wake up. But you know you must, your partner—heck your whole team—is counting on you. Like any mountain, it requires a certain convergence of conditions to be safe—a term used loosely.
In the world of mountaineering we train with a specific goal in mind—reaching the summit. We learn how to put our crampons on, how to operate in a rope team, how to effectively use an ice axe to self-arrest, and many more technical skills. And then there is the physical training that goes into prepping to ensure you are fit enough to climb and descend thousands of feet. But in the training what we often shortchange ourselves on is the mental prep that goes into climbing, and how important it is to keep yourself mentally in the game for the entire climb, not just the ascent. Join Sarah as she ropes you into adventure – on the mountain and on the job.
