Environmental Activist
Tamara Rubin is a mother of 4 boys living in Portland. She was the Founder of the nonprofit Lead Safe America Foundation (LSAF), with headquarters in Portland, Oregon. She started LSAF after two of her children were poisoned by lead when a contractor failed to use lead-safe work practices while repainting the exterior of their home.
Prior to becoming a lead poisoning prevention advocate, she was a software developer, designing databases for nonprofits, medical institutions and corporations. As a parent of lead poisoned children she has become a “walking, breathing database” about all the many risks associated with ubiquitous, incredibly neurotoxic lead in our children’s environment – having learned the hard way more about lead than anyone would ever want to learn. When we are exposed to environmental toxicity in our daily lives, our job is to limit or eliminate the sources of toxicity that we can. Making sure your food and water are safe is a good place to start.
