The lines between what “testers” do and what “developers” do for a software project are starting to blur. Skills from both sides are bleeding over to the other as teams look to become more adaptable and flexible. There is a rich literature and folklore for “troubleshooting skills”, which I hope to bring to a wider audience. An exploratory tester with the skills (networking, debugging, along with traditional testing skills) to follow wherever their inquiries lead them can be a valuable team member indeed. This talk will present both methods and tools to help expand the reach of anyone wanting to find the root cause of issues that trouble their code.
