Today test automation tools such as Selenium, Katalon, Sahi, SmartBear are very popular, and increasingly requested in job descriptions. However, managers, PM’s, Product owners and Leads need to start thinking beyond automation, AI and machine learning which have become the celebrity technology tools of the day. Why? automation, ML and AI all lack something special, what might that be? The answer is human intuition – complex thought that is based on an individual’s life experiences. This is why Tracy believes that having a team of manual testers makes sense and the art of manual testing will not go away. Manual testers have the job of knowing what the human would do and can truly look at the application like a user.
Learning:
- Organizing a test plan to require testing of human idiosyncrasies.
- Defining roles and expectations for manual testing, including controls for effort of rogue or out of specification testing.
- Ad-hoc testing value can be quantified with documentation, both in the moment and retrospectively.
- Improving automation, ML and AI with regular input from manual testing reports.
